![]() ![]() ![]() Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., has supported the UNCF since 1955. In its continuing support of African-American education, the fraternity gives an annual gift of $50,000 to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Since 1945, the fraternity has undertaken a National Social Action Program to meet the needs of African Americans in the areas of health, housing, civil rights, and education. In 1927, the fraternity made National Negro Achievement Week an annual observance, and it continues today as Achievement Week. Omega Psi Phi was the first black fraternal organization founded at Historically Black colleges and universities.įrom its inception, the fraternity has worked to build a strong and effective force of men dedicated to principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, uplift, and capable of giving expression to the hopes and aspirations of an unfree people in the land of the free. To date, the group has inducted over 160,000 members. While the group is listed as historically African American, it has never restricted membership on the basis of color, creed or national origin. The National Pan-Hellenic Council, an organization composed of nine historically black fraternities and sororities, also states that Kappa Alpha Psi was the second fraternity founded for African Americans in the United States. ![]() The aim of the fraternity was to unite college men in a bond of togetherness.
